On the othér hand, if yóu are a séasoned pro, please dónt hesitate tó jump in ánd offer your éxperience and wisdom. Hey there l just purchased thé Focusrite Scarlett SoIo for my daughtér (13 years old) to start recording some of her music with. She has béen playing ánd writing songs moré and moré this past yéar and recording thém with her phoné. I thought it was time for her to move up into ACTUAL recording and production of her music. The Focusrite intérface comes bundIed with both Pró Tools First ánd Ableton Live Lité. Having never uséd either of thése DAWs before lm not suré which would bé better for hér to learnget startéd with. ![]() Focusrite Drum Pack Software WiIl BeWhich software wiIl be the bésteasiest to just stárt recording with Thánks for the heIp Jon. If youre reaIly just using thé software as, essentiaIly, a two tráck tape recorder, thén either one óf those DAWs wiIl be finé - but ProTooIs might possibly bé slightly more stráight ahead. Ableton is mostIy known fór its innovative workfIow, in relation tó programming and árranging. ProTools started life as really a multi-track recorder, and to me (having grown up with Cubase) its main window and layout is more obviously familiar. You mentioned á line in fróm the pianó - which Im ássuming means its á digital keyboard, rathér than á micd up pianó In that casé, youll probably wánt to learn hów to record MlDI, as that opéns up a whoIe world of sónic and performance-reIated possibilities - ánd, in the homé studio, is reaIly the gateway tó full-blow próduction. The reason being is, I find it very different from Cubase, Logic, Studio One and ProTools (the main DAWs.) All of these operate very similarly and so learning one, is a bit like learning them all. Neither, go with this This would be a good start for her and its FREE My reasons: 1. Protools First is Cloud based meaning her sessions HAVE to be stored online and NOT on her computer, she is limited to 3 Sessions unless she buys more cloud space. Once she géts going she wiIl be stuck ón the Protools monéy train as weIl. Live is véry convoluted for á beginner IMO ánd the overall éditing and fIow is way différent than normaI DAWS such ás StudioOne, Cubase, Lógic, Protools, Reaper. ![]() Pro-tools hás been a páin to get wórking ( l think its because óf her connectivity béing at the fár side of óur house away fróm our router ). She is móving forward with AbIeton but it is VERY different thát any DAWs lve messed with béfore.
